What is an RTF File?
RTF is an abbreviation of Rich Text Format, which is a file format developed by Microsoft in 1980.
The aim of developing this file format is so that computers that do not have the Microsoft Word application can still open files written with this application.
RTF is also the default file format for WordPad, an application that is lighter than Microsoft Word.
Similar to DOCX files , RTF files also have various display elements in the document, starting from font styles , images, colors, and much more.
Microsoft’s help files used to use the RTF format, until they were replaced by HTML.
Microsoft stopped developing RTF in 2008, but today there are still quite a lot of applications using it.
