Who doesn’t know this man? <\/span>H. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, Se, MPP, Ph. <\/span>D. is the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta who has served since October 16 2017. So what was Mr Anies Baswedan’s childhood like until he became Governor of DKI Jakarta? <\/span>The following is the explanation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Profile of Anies Baswedan Kecil<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Anies Baswedan was born on May 7 1969 in Kuningan, West Java. <\/span>His father, Rasyid Baswedan, works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics at the Islamic University of Indonesia. <\/span>Anies is the grandson of H. Abdurrahman Baswedan or known as AR Baswedan. <\/span>His grandfather Anies was a national hero and was known as a nationalist, journalist, Indonesian independence fighter, diplomat, missionary and Indonesian writer.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His grandfather was also a member of the Investigation Agency for Business and Preparation for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI), deputy Indonesian Minister of Information in the Sjahrir Cabinet, member of the Working Body of the Central Indonesian National Committee (BP-KNIP), member of parliament, and was a member of the Constituent Council.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from that, Anies is the cousin of the Police Commissioner. <\/span>(Ret.) Novel Baswedan has been an investigator for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) since 2007. Novel Baswedan was also a member of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) from 1999 to 2014. Mrs. Anies Baswedan’s name is Prof. <\/span>Dr. <\/span>Hj. <\/span>Aliyah Rasyid Baswedan, M. Pd. <\/span>who is a lecturer and professor emeritus at Yogyakarta State University.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hj. <\/span>Aliyah Rasyid, apart from being active in various social, religious and community activities in Yogyakarta, has also served as General Chair of the DIY Islamic Women’s DPP for three terms, and has actively led the distribution of scholarships for pupils and students from underprivileged families for more than 3 decades.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Anies is the eldest child and has two younger brothers, namely Ridwan Baswedan and Abdillah Baswedan. <\/span>Anies grew up in Yogyakarta. <\/span>When he was 5 years old, Anies attended the Syuhada Mosque Kindergarten. <\/span>Anies went to Laboratory elementary school, Yogyakarta City when he was 6 years old.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Little Anies is known as a child who is easy to get along with and also has many friends. <\/span>Anies continued his junior high school at SMP Negeri 5 Yogyakarta. <\/span>Anies is also known to be active in the Intra-School Organization (OSIS) and holds the position of administrator in the field of Public Relations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After graduating, Anies continued his studies at SMA Negeri 2 Yogyakarta. <\/span>At high school, Anies was elected as deputy chairman of the OSIS and took part in leadership training with three hundred student OSIS presidents throughout Indonesia. <\/span>From there, Anies was elected as Chairman of the Indonesian Student Council in 1985.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In 1987 Anies was selected to participate in the AFS student exchange program and lived for a year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. <\/span>Because of this program, Anies had to study high school for four years. <\/span>When he returned to Yogyakarta, Anies had the opportunity to play a role in journalism. <\/span>Anies joined the Tanah Merdeka program on the Yogyakarta branch of Republic of Indonesia Television and got a role as an interviewer of national figures.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Profile of Young Anies Baswedan<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n
In 1989 Anies entered college and was accepted at the Faculty of Economics, Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta. <\/span>Anies remains active in organizations by joining the Islamic Student Association and becoming one of the Islamic Student Association Organization Rescue Council at Gadjah Mada University. <\/span>Anies served as Chair of the Student Senate at the Faculty of Economics in 1992 and helped regenerate the Student Senate after it was frozen by the Ministry of Education and Culture.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
Anies formed the Student Executive Board or BEM as an executive institution and promoted the senate as a legislative institution which was approved by congress in 1993. Anies’ leadership period saw the start of a research-based movement, a response to the exposure of the Clove Support and Marketing Agency case involving President Soeharto’s son, Hutomo Mandala Son. <\/span>Anies also initiated a demonstration against the implementation of the Social Fund System with prizes in November 1993 in the city of Yogyakarta.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
Anies Baswedan received a scholarship from the Japan Airlines Foundation to take part in a summer study program at Sophia University, Tokyo in the field of Asian studies in 1993. The scholarship was obtained after Anies won an environmental-themed writing competition. <\/span>Until finally Anies graduated from Gadjah Mada University in 1995. After graduating from college, Anies worked at the Inter-University Center for Economic Studies, Gadjah Mada University.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
On May 11, 1996 Anies married Hj. <\/span>Fery Farhati Ganis, S. Psi, M. Sc. <\/span>His wife is an academic who has served as Chair of the DKI Jakarta Family Welfare Empowerment since October 16 2017. Anies and Fery Farhati have four children, namely Mutiara Annisa Baswedan, Mikail Azizi Baswedan, Emperor Hakam Baswedan, and Ismail Hakim Baswedan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
In 1997, Anies received a Fulbright scholarship from the American Indonesian Exchange Foundation to continue his master’s studies in International Security and Economic Policy at the School of Public Affairs, University of Maryland. <\/span>Anies was also awarded the William P. Cole III Fellow at his University and graduated in December 1998.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
In 1999, shortly after graduating from Maryland, Anies again received a scholarship to continue his studies in Political Science at Northern Illinois University. <\/span>Anies worked as a research assistant in the Office of Research, Evaluation, and Policy Studies on campus and received the Gerald S. Maryanov Fellow scholarship, an award only given to NIU students who excel in the field of Political Science in 2004. His dissertation was entitled “Regional Autonomy and Patterns of Democracy in Indonesia\u201d, investigates the effects of decentralization policies on local government responsiveness and transparency and public participation, using survey data from 177 districts or cities in Indonesia. <\/span>Anies received his title in 2005.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Researcher at the Inter-University Center for Economics, Gadjah Mada University<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
When he finished his undergraduate program, Anies had a career as a researcher and project coordinator at the UGM Inter-University Center for Economic Studies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
2. IPC Research Manager, Inc. <\/span>Chicago<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
After completing his doctoral studies in 2004, Anies worked as a riser manager at IPC, Inc. <\/span>Chicago which is an association of electronics companies worldwide. <\/span>Anies took the job because he did not have the means to return to Indonesia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
3. Partnership for Governance Reform<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Anies joined the Partnership for Governance Reform, a non-profit organization that focuses on bureaucratic reform in various regions in Indonesia by emphasizing collaboration between the government and the civil sector.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
4. Research Director of the Indonesian Institute Center<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Anies is the research director of The Indonesian Institute, which is a public policy research institute founded in October 2004 by dynamic young activists and intellectuals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5. Chancellor of Paramadina University<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Anies was appointed Chancellor of Paramadina University on May 15 2007. At that time, Anies was still 38 years old, and Anies was the youngest chancellor in Indonesia. <\/span>As chancellor, Anies created a strategy, namely winning the Paramadina Fellowship or Paramadina scholarship. <\/span>The scholarship covers tuition fees, books and living expenses.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
Paramadina Fellowship is the embodiment of idealism in business language. <\/span>To make this happen, Anies adopted the concept of naming students who have graduated as is commonly used in many universities in North America and Europe. <\/span>Anies has also made a breakthrough by teaching anti-corruption since he was in college. <\/span>Anies considers that corruption is one of the nation’s problems. <\/span>Anti-corruption is taught in this course from theoretical frameworks to investigative reports on corrupt practices.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
6. Chairman of the Indonesian Teaching Movement Foundation<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
Anies is known as the founder of Indonesia Mengajar. <\/span>This movement is a generation of young people who are recruited as young teachers in elementary schools and the community for one year. <\/span>This idea emerged when Anies was still a UGM student. <\/span>In 1950, Mr. Koes initiated a program called Student Manpower Mobilization (PTM), this program was to fill the shortage of high school teachers in the regions, especially outside Java. <\/span>This PTM actually established a new and first high school in a district city.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
After graduating from UGM, Anies received a scholarship to continue his studies in the United States. <\/span>By studying and working abroad, Anies realizes that Indonesian children need world-class competencies to compete in the global sphere. <\/span>Indonesian children must also have sufficient understanding. <\/span>All the processes he carried out slowly formed a big idea, namely the Indonesia Teaching Movement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
7. Participants in the Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Convention<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
On August 27 2013, Anies was called to enter the world of politics by running the country and participating in the Democratic convention. <\/span>The invitation contained an effort to participate in fulfilling the promise of Independence. <\/span>Anies Baswedan accepted along with eleven other people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
His enthusiasm for fulfilling the goal of independence is Anies’ mission for the country. <\/span>For Anies, what is stated in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution is not just an ideal but a promise that must be kept. <\/span>Anies believes that this promise must be fulfilled by all Indonesian citizens, including himself.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
His position was stated officially in the declaration of the Democratic Party Convention on September 15 2013. The ideas he conveyed invited everyone to get involved in managing the country and get involved. <\/span>His idea was proven by creating the Turun Tangan Movement which within one year succeeded in gathering more than 300,000 unpaid volunteers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
