  1. PSL University (Paris Sciences & Letters) – 52

Ranked 52nd in the world and first place among the top universities in Paris France continues to belong to the Paris Sciences et Lettres Research University (PSL), a collegiate university formed in 2010 and made up of nine constituent colleges, including the highly selective cole normale supérieure (ENS Paris).

PSL achieved its strongest score on the employer reputation indicator, ranking 20th worldwide. The university maintains strong relationships with employers as well as strategic partnerships with other prestigious universities around the world.

Ecole Polytechnique rises five places to joint 68th in the world in 2021 and is a founding member of the collegiate universities of ParisTech, which specializes in science and business courses. It ranks 15th worldwide for an employer reputation indicator. Located 30 km outside the center of Paris, this campus offers 120 hectares of green space for its 4,600 students to enjoy.

A new institution formed from the merger of the University of Paris-Sorbonne and the Universities of Pierre and Marie Curie, the Sorbonne University is ranked 83rd in the world in 2021 and achieved its strongest score on an academic reputation indicator, ranking 42nd in the world.

CentraleSupélec is ranked 138th in the world in 2021 and was formed by the 2015 merger of cole Centrale Paris and Supélec’s graduate school of engineering. It is a founding member of Université Paris-Saclay, an association of research-intensive French universities.

Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon has dropped slightly to 161st in the world this year, but remains fifth among the top universities in France. Another of the grande écoles, the cole Normale Supérieure de Lyon is an elite public institution that trains researchers and teachers in the humanities and sciences.

Ecole des Ponts ParisTech rose eight spots to joint 242nd in the world this year, along with Sciences Po Paris. This is one of the smaller French universities, with over 2,000 students studying there. The University is another founding member of ParisTech.

Sciences Po Paris is a university specializing in law, economics, social sciences, politics, history and related fields. It is ranked 242nd in the world in 2021. It has approximately 14,000 students, of which almost half are international, with more than 150 nationalities represented on campus.

The University of Paris is jointly ranked 275th in this year’s world rankings, having fallen 22 places. Located in the heart of Paris, the university’s establishment in 2018 was due to the merger of Université Paris Descartes, Université Paris Diderot (Paris 7) and Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (The Paris Institute of Earth Physics, IPGP).

Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne climbed an impressive 18 places in this year’s world university rankings to earn a joint 287th place. It earned the highest score on the academic reputation indicator, where it was ranked 118th in the world. The university was founded in 1971 from two faculties of the University of Paris. Today the school specializes in economics and management, human sciences and legal and political sciences.

  1. ENS Paris-Saclay – 291

In France’s top 10 this year is ENS Paris-Saclay, officially known as ENS Cachan. The school ranks 291st in the world after climbing an incredible 21 places this year. It earns the highest score in the faculty/student ratio indicator, where it ranks in the world’s top 100.

The university recently moved campus to the commune of Gif-sur-Yvette, France’s ‘Silicon Valley’, where it is close to other members of the Paris-Saclay research-intensive business and research cluster. However, it has retained student accommodation and administrative offices on its original campus in Cachan.
