Mudabicara.com_The South East Asia Muslim Students Federation (PEPIAT) is closely monitoring the recent situation in Myanmar and we strongly condemn the act of Myanmar’s military force seizing power after detaining Aung San Suu Kyi and other democratically elected leaders.

This military coup d’état and the detention of the legally elected leaders are indeed a serious blow to the country’s transition to democracy and constitution.

Ahmad Farhan Rosli as Secretary General, South-East Asia Muslim Student Federation (PEPIAT) urges all ASEAN countries to call for an immediate meeting to figure out solutions and reconciliation to the crisis ongoing in Myanmar.

“All world leaders ought to stand together and appeal for the immediate release of the political detainees and the restoration of Myanmar’s rule of law” Farhan Said, Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday, (3/2/21)

We demand that the military respect the constitution, to resolve the conflicts through lawful mechanisms, and that all civil society leaders and government officials that have been illegally detained to be released immediately.

The military shall respect the will of the people of Myanmar as expressed in its previous democratic elections on November 8, 2020. The results of the elections must be inherently respected, and it is vital to restore the democratic process.

Thus, it is the responsibility of the entire ASEAN community to ensure the lasting peace and harmony of the entire region as contained in the ASEAN Charter 2007 for a more prosperous future.
